Adult Divisions: No maximum number of entries for each standard category. Contestants with (4) entries will receive a one-day pass for any day of the fair. (Excludes the NTFR category entries and special category entries) Previous year entries will not be accepted and disqualified.
Youth Divisions: No maximum number of entries for each standard category. Youth divisions are grouped together by age, not by category. Contestants with (4) entries will receive a one-day pass for any day of the fair. (Excludes NTFR category entries and special category entries) Previous year entries will not be accepted and disqualified.
Different theme every year - All ages - Must have a minimum of 20+ entries to receive a Rosette
NIGHTLIFE *Photos that capture after the sun goes down. This includes but is not limited to starry skies, life under neon lights, streaking traffic lights, mother nature at night (storms/lightning), etc.
We will not accept gruesome, vulgar, disrespectful photos of any kind. Any photos that do not follow this guideline can be disqualified and turned away at check in. We want a positive NTFR theme. This category is open to all ages and will be judged as one group, regardless of age. The same photo display rules will apply to this category. $3.00 entry fee, no maximum number of entries.
Rosettes will be awarded for Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion. This class is not included in the free one-day pass for (4) entries.NTFR Category:
No maximum number of entries. It needs to be within the last three consecutive years of the NTFR. This category is open to all ages and will be judged as one group, regardless of age. This class can have either color or black and white photo/prints. *The winner will receive a custom North Texas Fair t-shirt with a one-day pass for you to enjoy any day at the 2022 North Texas Fair & Rodeo. The winner's photo will also be on display in the fair office for an additional 30 days for everyone to see and will be posted on the NTFR Facebook page. Rosettes will be awarded for Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion. $3.00 entry fee, no maximum number of entries.

*Photograph entries must be 8x10" ONLY* No other sizes will be accepted.
Please use the appropriate size mat frame. We will no longer accept thick board, foam board or foam core board. The overall thickness may only be the thickness of standard mat frame material and the thickness of the photograph paper together. Photographs must be mounted on the mat frame and mat frame only. Please do NOT use poster board or construction paper to mount your photographs. There should be no designs or cutouts to your mat board frame except for the cut out where the picture is to be displayed. No OVAL cutouts to display your 8x10 photograph. The entire entry including photograph and display board should be no larger than 11x14".
NO FRAMES, NO GLASS. Do not title your pictures, and/or write anything on the front of the board or picture.
REQUIRED: Exhibitors must print your name, address and phone number on the back of your entries. The NTFR committee will assign an entry number for it at the time of check in.
Digital photos will be accepted if they follow the same guidelines listed above and may not include special effects or special enhancements. This will include altered or manipulated photos in a photographic, digital or manual process. If rules are not followed, you will be disqualified. We will only accept true black and white photographs, not sepia, antique, altered color tones, etc. We will not accept any photo that has been developed on metallic paper.*Please do not remove your photo entry during the fair. We would like to have these on display for the entire event.
Entries will be judged on an individual basis by a panel of judges according to criteria that have been predetermined by the committee. Judging will be on Wednesday evening. (No public viewing) The results will be available by the following Friday, the first official full opening day of the fair.Awards:
Ribbons will be awarded on merit for each photograph that is entered. Qualifies entries will be awarded 1st, 2nd or 3rd place ribbons. Rosettes will be awarded in each division, for Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion. Special categories will have their own awards as stated in the description and will also be awarded a Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion.
People's Choice Award: The People's Choice Award will also be decided on Thursday, August 25. A plaque will be awarded for the photo entry which has accumulated the most votes during the fair by all fair attendees. The winning photograph will also be displayed separately for the remainder of the fair for all patrons to view in Fair Hall. Please visit the Photography Exhibit at Fair Hall and cast your votes. There will be a display table with a voting box in Fair Hall.
The North Texas State Fair and Rodeo is a family event, and all photographs entered must be presented in good taste and are subject to be disqualified by the photography committee if they do not follow these rules. If they are disqualified, they will not be displayed during the fair.
Entries must be picked up between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 28. All photo entries that are left after this time will be discarded and will not be mailed back to the contestant. We will not mail back ribbons, rosettes or photo entries. NTFR WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY LOST OR DAMAGED PHOTOS! NO EARLY PICKUP, SUNDAY ONLY!
